U14 Boys reach EH Cup National Finals

March 26th, 2017,

The u14s had a very successful day today at Bar End, competing in the Tier 2 regional round of the EH Cup. At this stage in the national competition, 4 teams compete in a pool for one space in the national finals (8 teams nationally reach the finals). The boys got off to a great start this morning beating Sunbury & Walt’s 2-0. They then turned on the style going 4-0 up against Guilford. Then following a few rotations the foot came off the gas slightly and the game finished at 4-2 to Winchester. Luckily for Winchester the other results were favourable (all draws) so two wins meant that Winchester had qualified with a game in hand.

Realising that they had qualified already, the boys started slowly in the finally match against Bath Buccs. A lapse of concentration allowed Bath’s large and quick centre forward to break through our badly positioned defence and score, to go a goal ahead against the run of play. However, the determined Winchester dug in and pulled a goal back to draw this final game 1-1 and finish the day unbeaten.

With this final result the boys won their group with 7pts and now progress to the National Finals, Sunbury were 2nd with 4pts.

On 13th May the boys will be competing at Lee Valley with 7 other clubs to determine the EH National Champions.

Well done boys we are all very proud of you!
