U10 girls reach regional semi finals!!!

March 29th, 2015,

Following their sterling efforts in the Hampshire In2Hockey competition our U10 girls represented Winchester in the regional finals at Surbiton today. Here is the feedback from coach Emma Whitmore:

The girls won their pool beating Reading 3-0 en route, they then beat Oxford Hawks in the Quarter Finals on penalty shuffles. In close fought contest they then lost to Eastbourne in the Semis 1-0. So only one goal conceded from open play all day !! Fantastic. At that standard it was great.

During the Semis the rain was horizontal, the umbrellas where blown inside out in the wind it was horrible but the girls played well with spirits high.

The girls should all be really proud of how they played.

The full results were as follows:

Game 1 v Bucks – 0-0 Draw
Game 2 v Reading – 3-0 Win ( our girls played brilliantly)
Game 3 v Teddington – 0-0 Draw (tough match)

Qtrs v Oxford Hawks – 0-0FT, 0-0extra time, Won 2-1 on shuffles

On our shuffles Oxford’s first one went in then Anna took our first and buried it in the back of the net. Goalie Ruby Slowen saved the next one and Ruby Lee buried our second (another strong hit) and so we won !

Semis v Eastbourne – 0-1 Lose

Eastbourne then lost to Surbiton in the final.

A great day all round. I would like to thank all of the parents who were absolutely fantastic, despite getting absolutely soaking wet!

Well done girls, we are all very proud of you!

Unfortuntely there were no photos from the tournament as it was so wet. But below is a photo from the county round (please note that there were a couple of team changes for the regionals).
